Kitchen Lighting Design

Lighting can change the way you feel in a particular place; it can change the entire ambience of a room and can make you feel better in a place. Kitchen being one of the most important places of a home, it requires a special treatment. As far as lighting goes, it should gel with the interior so chosen for the room. It can enhance the feel of a god kitchen. An ideal kitchen is brightly lit without any shadows. It should be ambient and at the same tie should solve every purpose. This is general lighting prescription for all types of living and working environments.

Some tips:
Te best way to light your kitchen is to use fluorescent tubes as they have a large surface area and provide with higher amount of light. It is advisable to have a fixture close to the task area of the kitchen and also on the upper side of the counters, sinks, and tables in the kitchen. In case there is an island or maybe a peninsula over the task area, hanging lights can be used to solve the purpose. Another option can be incandescent lamps with either tracked or even recessed fixtures. The most common types of these incandescent lamps are the halogen lamps. These halogen lamps are available in different patterns of the beam. However, the fact that they cast heavy shadows can make them a poor choice for the task areas of the kitchen. However, the halogen PAR30 lamp is a better choice for task lighting as compared to its counterparts. It has a high aesthetic value and doesn't require transformers like the 12V MR16.

Ambient lighting:
It is a kind of lighting that fills in shadows, reduces the contrast, and lights up surfaces to give the space a brighter look. If in case your kitchen interior is light in color with a number of windows, then plenty of natural light is required and hence, ambient lighting is the best option. Since kitchens are also used in mornings and around dusk, fluorescent tubes are supposed to be the best option.
